Site Runner Setup

Site Runners are an optional component that allow AB Tutor to interface with your local network.

Site Runner currently allows support for Wake on LAN (WoL) which lets you remotely wake computers from sleep or hibernation. With more features related to the Site Runner in future releases.

We recommend installing Site Runner on a machine that is always powered on and connected to your local network during normal operations.

Where possible, we suggest having One Site Runner per site.

Add a new Site Runner

Navigate to the Sites section and select the Site Runners tab.
Click Set up a Site Runner.
You will be asked to provide a name for the runner and select the site it belongs to.

This will generate and are required during installation:
- The tenant key
- The site ID
- A long lived authentication token
Select Download the runner to download the installer.
During installation, enter the tenant key, site ID, and runner authentication token.

Once installed, the Site Runner:

Registers itself as a Windows service
Starts automatically with Windows
Reports availability back to

Clients aren't showing as online - Chrome

Accepted Answer

The most consistent to check if Users are supposed to be online or not is the 'Clients' page inside the Console.

Chromebook Clients:

The Client is a browser extension. If there isn't a Chrome browser open on the device then the extension can't run, causing it to appear as offline. Additional a tab must be open where the extension can execute its code. This means the settings window won't count, along with just a 'new tab' that directly doesn't open a webpage.
If the customer has switched the Client to be inside a different site, or event tenant/licence, then the Chromebook will likely need to be Power washed for it to appear.
Without a SECRET a Google Workspace integration is required.

Accepted Answer

The most consistent to check if Users are supposed to be online or not is the 'Clients' page inside the Console.

It is best to check if the customer's licence has expired.

For Windows Clients

Client logs are located here:

C:\ProgramData\ABTutor\v10\client\logs.

Will most likely confirm the exact issue when received. Can be shared with customer:

Check the Windows Registry at the location Computer\HKEYLOCALMACHINE\SOFTWARE\ABTutor. The registry keys TENANTKEY and SITEID need to be defined.
Check the ABTutorAgent10 process is running.
Try calling C:\Program Files\ABTutorAgent10\app-99.99.99\iwa_wam_token\iwa-wam-console.exe --client_id  86d6aafc-9508-41ae-ada4-ba0b6ab5ad5c  --tenant common --auth IWA on the machine itself. If you get 'Failed to get user name' or No mapping between account names and security IDs was done then. It means that you may be signed into the device with a local computer account as opposed to an Active Directory(AD) account. A SECRET is required in such a situation, or ensure that the device is added to the domain and that the currently signed-in user is backed by AD. It is not enough to have a computer joined to a domain alone, as local accounts on the device won't be able to access your AD credentials. AB Tutor v9: offline clients

There can be a number of reasons a client is no longer showing as online inside the Console.

The automatic certificate signing rules was set up incorrectly:

Device expiry means that if the Device hasn't contacted the Server within the specified time then it's automatically deleted. This feature is intended for environments where a VM instance is created upon logging in and deleted once the logout occurs. Misuse of this feature can cause security concerns and devices being deleted from the system, causing them to appear as offline.

Duplicate Devices:

If a device was reimaged and the Client was reinstalled and reaccepted as a new device then the old device will linger. If they're not re-added to the group then this can make this appear as offline as the Teachers are looking at the wrong device. Use the device merge tool inside the web UI to resolve this issue. The page for accepting new incoming devices should be checked first.

Duplicate programData directories.

Ask how the customer installed the client(s). If it's through cloning the machine then see the top answer from here:
