Central Server installation To install the Central Server:

Download the installer from your account on our website - www.abtutor.com.
Run the ABv10ServerInstaller.msi installer.
Click next, accept the licence and choose an install location, followed by next again.
Click Install to install the Licence Server. After installation, click Finish. Connect to the Central Server in a web browser, by https on port 5151, eg https://abcs:5151 - when you first connect to the Central Server, you will see a certificate error. This is normal - please bypass it. The default username and password are admin and pass. Licence the Server.
Follow the proxy prompt if you need to set up a proxy before activating the licence.
Choose create a 30 day trial or activate a full licence
Activate using your abtutor.com login details or, for a full licence, your serial key if preferred.
Click Activate Create Users
You can add users manually or via an Active Directory sync.

Ab Tutor V10 (On-Prem): How does licencing work?

When you purchase AB Tutor V10 (On-Prem) you get a Licence key which is intended to be used by your Central Server component. This is the one piece of software that gets licenced. The Central Server will then contact our licence management servers at abtutor.com in order to validate this licence. Once it is successful it will be given a concurrency login value. This determines how many Console Users can log into the Server at once. This verification process repeats every 8 hours. Should there be an unsuccessful validation request validation attempts will happen every hour. Your licence will remain active for 3 day until a successful validation takes place.

You are allowed to install the Console and Client software on as many machines as you like. We only limit customers on how many can be logged into the Console at the same time.

To create a new account manager on ABTutor.com, go to https://www.abtutor.com/register Fill in all the info required including the new email and new password

You will receive an email from us saying Registration request, click on the link inside the email Login using the new email and password, should get a screen like that

Go to "manage an existing account" type in the account number

A request will be sent to be approved

Then log into ABTutor.com with an account manager already created to grant access to the new user and will see this in the account screen

AB Tutor V10 (On-Prem): MacOS Screen Capture MDM Configuration

ABTutor requires Screen Recording permission (TCC - Transparency, Consent, and Control) on macOS to capture screens. Starting with macOS 10.15 Catalina, users must explicitly grant this permission. For managed environments, this can be pre-approved via MDM (Mobile Device Management) using a Privacy Preferences Policy Control (PPPC) profile. Important: macOS does not allow programmatically bypassing the TCC prompt. The only way to silently grant screen recording permission is through an MDM-deployed configuration profile. Note: Deployment of the ABTutorInstaller.pkg will only install the ABClient (Student Agent) and the ABHelper. If you need the AB Tutor Console, we recommend manually installing that on the select machines that require it. You will still need to deploy the ScreenCapture permissions via MDM.

AB Tutor offers all those logged on with administrative rights some very powerful features. We recommend that network administrators do not allow all users administrative access, but that they carefully control who has access to which computers and the functions that these users can access. To do this, you need to:

Set Start-up Passwords
Create Classroom Groups
Set restrictions on teachers connecting to these groups

Setting Start-up Passwords There are two levels of access to the Tutor program: Administrator and Tutor. Access to both of these are controlled by start-up passwords. The Administrator access level allows a network manager to control how the Tutor program connects to other workstations through its settings, group management and policy management tools. It also allows an administrator to restrict Tutor level access to pre-set groups and to limit the functions that are available to tutors connecting to those groups. The Administrator has access to some very powerful features (such as controlling windows policies) and should therefore be limited to users with sufficient technical and networking expertise. Tutor access rights are simply to prevent unauthorised users from using the program. The administrator controls whether to enable this security level or not.
